Dave Hurt is also a familiar groove master from the ranks of Pittsburgh’s drum and bugle corps scene: Steel City Spartans, Pittsburgh Rockets, Steel City Ambassadors, Syracuse Brigadiers and The Westshoreman (Harrisburg, PA). Dave was a member of two “Best Pit Percussion Ensemble” and “Individual Pit Ensemble” units in 1990 and 1995 in addition to garnering two perfect undefeated seasons as a member of the Westshoreman Drum line 1995-1996.
Currently his interests include exploration of the keyboard as a percussion surface medium. Bringing rhythms and melodies reminiscent of John Cage and Cecil Taylor with a heavy Herbie Hancock influence, Dave takes our ensembles on rhythmic journeys we never thought imaginable. A gifted ear indeed…
